Ivan Baryshnikov is a saxophonist, composer and educator living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Ivan is working in various music genres on stage and in the studio, collaborating with artists of other fields: dance, theatre, film and more. Ivan is mentoring artists in private lessons and during workshops.
Ivan was born in Moscow, Russia in 1990. After years of studying music and dance since he was a child, Baryshnikov chose to focus on saxophone at the age of 14. Later, in becoming a professional musician, he took a way independent of a family tradition: his parents are both engineers, but always appreciated music as an art form and introduced it to Ivan.
While attending Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, Ivan Baryshnikov spent two summers at workshops in Amsterdam held by the Manhattan School of Music. Later, he deepened his studies in Groningen, the Netherlands and USA, where he was able to develop his personal music style in improvised music genre.
During an exchange semester spent in New York, he recorded the album Journey (2018), telling a story of moving between three countries, becoming a new father and discovering a new musical personality inside.
That experience resulted to a self identity awareness both in life and music, and let Ivan Baryshnikov design a method of development based on exploration of artist’s identity and self reflection, and became an artist with a unique voice.
